Ican is one of those Asian pioneers that paved the way for “affordable” carbon on the European market. I remember the forum days more than ten years ago, when Ican often came up in discussions among enthusiasts looking for carbon wheels at a reasonable price.

Their niche hasn’t changed: offering reliable carbon at a reasonable price. And with an average rating of 4.8 on Trustpilot, you can say the promise is kept.
Beyond wheels, Ican also designs road and gravel frames, sold under their own name or via their sister brand Triaero.
An understated design and confidence-inspiring finish
I received the Ican G50 wheelset for testing, a gravel wheelset with a 50 mm rim profile.
The numbers speak for themselves: 25 mm internal width, 31.3 mm external, and a Toray 700 carbon fibre construction. Hooked rims, obviously tubeless compatible, and delivered with rim tape and valves (not installed).
The in-house D28 hub uses 36 points of engagement, can be disassembled tool-free, and is based on a classic yet tidy design.
The build uses Sapim CX-Ray spokes, always a reassuring choice.
Visually, the matt finish and subtle, slightly purplish markings add an understated, well-executed touch. We’re a long way from the “cheap” look often associated with low-priced wheels.
A simple, effective setup
The packaging is neat, and delivery is fast: one week from the European warehouse (shipping and customs fees included).
The supplied rim tape is good quality: a single layer was enough to achieve a perfect seal.
The tubeless setup was effortless: I immediately mounted Vittoria Terreno T50 in 50 mm, which is the upper limit of the stated compatibility.
Pressure holds for several days without dropping – this rim-tyre combo is a perfect match!
At under 1400 g on the scale, these G50s sit among light gravel wheels, especially for such a tall profile. They are recommended for tyres from 28 to 50 mm, which covers the majority of versatile gravel use.
On the trail: behaviour close to Zipp 303 S
On the trails, the G50s immediately reminded me of the previous-generation Zipp 303 S that I rode extensively: same rim depth, same philosophy.
Overall behaviour is balanced: neither too stiff nor too soft. You get good inertia on fast terrain and appreciable comfort when the surface deteriorates, especially with wide tyres.
Acceleration is lively, it holds speed well, and stability is on point.
Even on more demanding sections, the 50 mm rim depth didn’t feel penalising, as long as you accept a bit more height exposed to impacts.
After more than 700 km, no signs of wear have appeared on the rims – a good sign for durability.
The freehub noise is present but reasonable, far from the racket of some very “racing” wheels.
In this price range (around €900 a pair depending on the configuration), the Ican G50 clearly play the value-for-money card.
It’s hard to find elsewhere such a level of finish, a Toray carbon construction, CX-Ray spokes, and a low weight.
🔔 April 2026 update:
Since this review was published, I’ve kept riding these wheels extensively, including with other tyre setups and also road use with 32 mm tyres. The feel remains relatively similar, but the wheel’s stiffness is accentuated with a smaller tyre section.
My take on these ICAN G50 wheels
The Ican G50 are an excellent surprise. They tick all the boxes of a modern wheelset: lightweight, understated look, consistent behaviour, and above all a rock-bottom price for a serious build.
Without chasing outright performance, they offer a coherent balance between efficiency and comfort, ideal for versatile riders who alternate road, fast tracks, and long rides.
If you’re looking for a reliable upgrade under €1000, without falling into the trap of disguised low-end gear, the G50 clearly deserve a spot on your shortlist.
And the fact that Ican has a European warehouse is a real plus for peace of mind.
