Just a few months after the launch of the EDR CF Ultra, Van Rysel expands its endurance range with a more affordable EDR CF, offered here with 12-speed mechanical Shimano 105 at €2,499.99.
Without any formal announcement from the brand, this new model nevertheless carries over almost the same geometry as the EDR CF Ultra, while adding two tangible updates to the frame: internal storage and two additional mounting points on the top tube. Two elements that were missing from the Ultra and that we had already highlighted in our analysis.
🚀 In short:
Van Rysel launches the EDR CF with 2×12 mechanical Shimano 105 at €2,499.99, more affordable than the EDR CF Ultra.
The frame carries over the Ultra’s geometry and adds internal storage in the down tube + 8 inserts, including 2 on the top tube.
Van Rysel sticks to the same formula. The EDR CF is built on an endurance geometry, designed to rack up the miles without completely sacrificing efficiency.
The position is more upright and more forgiving than a pure race bike, while keeping a sufficiently stiff platform to stay lively under acceleration. A coherent brief for a bike aimed at regular to intensive road rides with a versatile outlook.
Also note that the frame is UCI approved, ensuring it is compatible with competitive use, even if that is clearly not its primary purpose.
This is probably the main new feature of this EDR CF compared with the Ultra:
the frame now integrates a storage compartment in the down tube, capable of holding a complete repair kit, supplied as standard.
Another notable addition: 8 inserts in total on the frame, to attach bottle cages and accessories, including two on the top tube. A small detail that can make a big difference on long rides or for mixed uses.
The bare frame is quoted at 1,000 g in size M, a figure in line with this price point.
Van Rysel equips this EDR CF with its VR35 Lite carbon wheelset. A sensible depth, geared toward versatility and stability more than pure aero gains. Paired with Continental Grand Prix TR tyres in 700×28 mm, this wheelset underlines the bike’s endurance/performance positioning.
The stated tyre clearance of up to 38 mm also opens the door to more comfortable setups and even very rough surfaces, without tipping over into gravel.
This model is equipped with a 2×12-speed Shimano 105 R7100 drivetrain, a logical choice at this price point:
The wide cassette range lets you tackle rolling through to mountainous profiles with confidence, while remaining accessible to a broad audience. Shimano 105 remains a benchmark for reliability, ease of maintenance, and running costs.
The cockpit is deliberately simple and functional:
The package underlines the intent to offer a forgiving bike, built to last rather than chase absolute lightness.
The claimed weight in size M is 8.66 kg, with inner tubes and without pedals.
An honest figure given the specification and pricing.
With this new EDR CF, Van Rysel clearly refines its endurance line-up.
This model looks like a direct response to the criticisms raised at the launch of the EDR CF Ultra, notably the lack of storage and mounting points.
At €2,500, it is hard to find many competitors offering a UCI-approved carbon frame, carbon wheels, a Shimano 105 drivetrain, and this level of versatility.
It is not a spectacular bike, nor a thoroughbred race machine, but a coherent, well equipped, and rational tool, true to Van Rysel’s philosophy.
A smart choice for riders seeking a modern endurance road bike without the technological or price arms race.
