Origine adds a new road bike to its Axxome family, but with a choice almost counter to today’s market: a 6061 aluminium frame, a carbon fork, and an entry price of €1,350.
The idea is not to replace the carbon Axxome. The Axxome AL is more about opening a more accessible door into the brand’s road range, with the same core argument Origine has pushed for years: fully configurable builds, customisable paint, assembled in France.
🚀 In short:
New 6061 aluminium road bike with carbon fork
Starting price announced at €1,350
Compatible with 25 to 35 mm tyres and mechanical or electronic drivetrains
Origine presents this Axxome AL as a true member of the Axxome family. The brand draws on more than twelve years of development around this platform, already offered in carbon with lighter, higher-end models.
The logic recalls that of the Axxome 3, which already marked a shift towards greater versatility with tyre clearance up to 35 mm. Here, Origine keeps that key figure: the Axxome AL accepts 25 to 35 mm tyres.
That is significant on a road bike. Go 28 or 30 mm to ride fast, 32 or 35 mm to gain comfort on rougher roads: the Axxome AL does not stray into gravel, but it clearly follows the modern evolution of the road bike.
The frame uses 6061 aluminium, with butted tubing and wall thicknesses varied according to stress zones. Simply put: Origine aims to put material where it really matters, and remove it elsewhere to limit weight.
The fork is carbon, a logical choice on this type of bike. It should help filter some vibrations and keep the steering precise, although feel will obviously depend on the complete build, wheels and tyres chosen.
Origine gives two weight markers: under 8 kg for the lightest configurations, and around 10 kg for the most accessible version, equipped with a Shimano groupset and Mavic wheels. The gap is significant, but it also says something about the concept: the Axxome AL is not set in stone.
The spec sheet goes in the right direction for a bike designed to last. BSA 68 bottom bracket, 12 x 100 mm front and 12 x 142 mm rear through-axles, flat-mount brakes with 160 or 180 mm rotors, 27.2 mm seatpost, two bottle cage mounts: nothing needlessly exotic.
The frame accepts mechanical or electronic drivetrains, in 1x or 2x. Origine also mentions compatibility with a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), a detail that has become useful for parts availability and possible future evolutions of the bike.
As for gearing, the range covers both classic 2x road setups and more specific 1x configurations. With Shimano, Origine mentions from 46/30 to 52/36. With SRAM, from 46/33 to 50/37 in 2x, and up to a 50T chainring in 1x Wide.
This kind of latitude fits the brand’s DNA: start from a frame, then build the bike around the rider rather than the other way round.
Origine’s real strength is not limited to the material. It is above all in the configurator. Drivetrain, wheels, components, cockpit, saddle, tyres, gearing, colours: the Axxome AL retains the customisation logic already seen on the higher models.
Origine offers paint to order, done by hand in France, and assembly in its workshops in Rouvignies, in northern France. At €1,350 starting price, this is probably the most striking element of the announcement: offering a fully configurable aluminium road bike, without reserving it for very high budgets.
The brand had already explored this idea of accessibility with its GTS range on the carbon side. The Axxome AL takes a different tack: less material prestige, but a lower entry point and a frame that remains configurable.
You should not read this Axxome AL as a direct competitor to the most ambitious carbon versions. An Axxome RR plays in another league, with a 749 g frame and a single-minded pursuit of low weight.
The Axxome AL targets another rider. Someone who wants a true road bike, upgradeable and customisable, but who does not necessarily want to enter carbon price territory. Also someone who sometimes prefers good, well-equipped aluminium to a basic, poorly configured carbon.
That is where the announcement becomes interesting. Origine is not just selling a cheaper material. The brand is trying to defend the idea that an aluminium bike can still be lively, serious, precise, and above all well thought out.
