Rose Backroad 2026: this gravel bike has a hidden accessory in the frame!

From versatile best seller to exploration machine: Rose has just unveiled the new generation of its famous Backroad. And this time, the German brand isn’t trying to please everyone: the Backroad 2026 is firmly aimed at long-distance adventure, bikepacking and rides far from any power outlet.

From versatility to a true adventure bike

Since 2018, the Backroad had established itself as Rose’s Swiss Army knife of gravel bikes. Accessible and versatile, it appealed to leisure riders as well as the occasional racer. In the meantime, Rose released the Backroad FF (race-focused, aero, aggressive), leaving room for the classic Backroad to reinvent itself.

The result: the 2026 model year marks a clear shift. Integrated storage, SON dynamo, USB-C powerbank, tyres up to 53 mm and mounts galore: the Backroad is no longer an all-round gravel bike – it’s now a bike designed to go off-grid for several days.

A bike that produces and manages its own power

The Unsupported version is arguably the most striking.

SON 29 S dynamo: continuous power from 12 km/h.
Supernova M99 DY Pro: front light with high beam up to 1,000 lumens.
Busch+Müller K-Werk 4,900 mAh powerbank integrated into the frame: charge your GPS, smartphone or camera via USB-C.
Handlebar control: a Power Switch lets you choose between lighting or charging.

In practical terms, that means even midway through a Kyrgyzstan crossing, you’re lit, connected and independent.

Integrated storage and custom-fit bags

Rose didn’t just think about electrics. The frame houses a storage compartment in the down tube (tool, inner tube, lightweight jacket). Above it sits a Fidlock bottle cage: zero wasted space.

On top of that, Rose includes a Fidlock frame bag as standard and also offers a magnetic top-tube version. The integration is so tidy they look like part of the frame. No more rubbing Velcro or bags that sway.

Geometry revised for endurance

Rose has lengthened the wheelbase and slightly slackened the head angle for extra stability, especially with loaded bags. The position remains sporty, but it’s more relaxed than on the Backroad FF. In short: you rack up miles, not KOMs.

Who is the Backroad 2026 for?

For bikepackers who want to head out self-supported for several days.
For adventurers who prefer the security of a dynamo and powerful lighting rather than having to recharge a USB light every evening.
For riders who like the idea of a bike conceived as a complete system (frame + bags + integrated power).

If you want pure speed, look to the FF. If you want comfort and adventure, the new Backroad is built for you.

Our take on the Rose Backroad

With this new Backroad, Rose fully embraces its transformation: this is no longer a do-it-all gravel bike but a machine designed for adventure. And you can feel it: SON dynamo, USB-C powerbank, integrated Fidlock bags, tyres up to 53 mm… Every detail speaks to long-distance travel and reliability.

We also appreciate Rose’s effort to offer a turnkey solution with a strong spec-to-price ratio, especially on the Unsupported version.

Not everything is perfect though: weight climbs quickly with all the adventure kit, the top-tube bag is limited in capacity, and we regret the absence of builds with carbon wheelsets to drop overall weight. But these are ultimately logical trade-offs for a bike focused on reliability above all.
