Lazer introduces VeloVox: the first audio system designed for cyclists

Ride in a group without taking your hands off the bars, talk strategy like a pro peloton, or simply enjoy your favourite playlist in safety: that’s the promise behind VeloVox, the new audio device developed by Lazer in partnership with Cardo and integrated with Shimano systems.

🚀 In short:

  • VeloVox is an open-ear audio system that lets you connect up to 30 cyclists simultaneously without isolating you from ambient noise.

  • It features advanced intercom technology with a microphone offering active noise and wind reduction for clear communication.

  • The lightweight modules (19 g each) attach to helmet straps and can be controlled via Shimano Di2 levers.

  • Regulations regarding these “open-ear” devices are unclear in France, but they’re often tolerated since the ear remains unobstructed.

Smooth communication for up to 30 riders

With VeloVox, no more shouting into the wind or misread hand signals. Thanks to its advanced intercom technology, it can connect up to 30 cyclists simultaneously. Conversations stay clear thanks to a microphone with active noise and wind reduction, even at speed or in the rain.

Open-ear design: safety and comfort first

Unlike conventional earbuds that shut you off from your surroundings, VeloVox uses an open-ear design. The result: you still hear traffic, road noise and your riding partners, while enjoying clear audio for voice and music. A real benefit for safety.

A device designed for cyclists

The modules fasten directly to the helmet straps and stay discreet (just 19 g per unit). The interface is deliberately simple:

  • on the left, group communication,
  • on the right, music and phone calls.

VeloVox delivers up to 11 hours of battery life, is water-resistant (IP54), and can also be controlled via the Cardo Connect app.

Shimano integration for intuitive control

The big innovation lies in its integration with Shimano Di2 levers and Shimano e-bike systems. Riders can control their music or start a conversation without ever taking their hands off the bars or their eyes off the road.

More connected, more social cycling

For Peter Duynslaeger, General Manager at Lazer, the goal is clear: “Improve the cycling experience by connecting riders without distraction, for team strategy, safety, or simply the joy of riding.”

Asaf Schnitzer (Cardo) shares the same view: “VeloVox will propel cycling to new heights, turning it into a much more connected and social experience.”

What about the law?

Since 2015, French regulations have prohibited the use of earbuds, headphones and earpieces while operating a vehicle, bicycles included. The fine is €135. Article R412-6-1 of the Highway Code.

But what about “open-ear” devices like the Lazer VeloVox or bone-conduction headsets?

👉 The law does not mention them explicitly. In theory, any device “likely to emit sound worn at the ear” may be covered.

👉 In practice, these technologies leave the ear unobstructed and let you hear your surroundings. They therefore sit in a legal grey area, rarely penalised to date.

💡 Internationally, the situation varies: some countries ban any audio device, others allow it as long as the cyclist remains attentive (e.g. Germany, the United States depending on the state).

Price and availability

The Lazer VeloVox is available now on Lazer’s official website and from partner retailers at €160.
